- <P><FONT FACE="Garamond"> Everything you assign Addict
- to do is a task. For example, you may use Addict to make sure you
- play your favourite game only until 9pm tonight. This is one task.
- At the same time, you can have a second task which will force you to turn
- off your computer (and hopefully go to sleep) at 2am.</FONT>

- <P><FONT FACE="Garamond"> <B><FONT SIZE=+1>Anatomy of
- a task</FONT></B></FONT>

- <P> Every task is characterized by the following:

- <P><B><FONT FACE="Garamond"> ò What to do?</FONT></B>
- <BR><FONT FACE="Garamond"> For example, "Turn off the
- computer" or "Turn off <I>enter the name of your favourite game here</I>".</FONT>

- <P><B><FONT FACE="Garamond"> ò When (and for how long)
- to do it?</FONT></B>
- <BR><FONT FACE="Garamond"> A task may involve simply
- turning off the computer at 2am. In addition, the task can also include
- making sure the computer remains off until 8am.</FONT>

- <P><B><FONT FACE="Garamond"> ò Who can cancel this?</FONT></B>
- <BR><FONT FACE="Garamond"><B> </B>There are three possibilities:</FONT>
- <BR><FONT FACE="Garamond"> <B>1)</B> <B>Everybody</B>
- can delete this task. Following the previous example, if at 1:55am
- you decide that you want to keep using the computer past 2am, you can delete
- the task you previously assigned. This is the safest setting.</FONT>
- <BR><FONT FACE="Garamond"> <B>2)</B> <B>Nobody</B> can
- delete this task. Even if you change your mind, once you create the
- task, there is no turning back. So the computer is off at 2am no
- matter what! For instance, if you keep promising yourself that you
- will spend less time playing a computer game, and then keep breaking these
- promisses, this is a good setting to use.</FONT>
- <BR><FONT FACE="Garamond"> Needless to say, this is a
- very powerful option, so use it with care.</FONT>
- <BR><FONT FACE="Garamond"> <B>3)</B> You can delete this
- task, but <B>only</B> if you provide the<B> password</B>. This alternative
- is available only if you have opted for using <A HREF="Password.htm">password</A>
- in the <A HREF="Options.htm">options form</A>. (Note that passwords
- are not task-specific; instead there is only one password for all
- tasks. For explanation, see <A HREF="Password.htm">password description</A>.)</FONT>
- <BR><FONT FACE="Garamond"> This setting is a compromise
- between safety and enforceability, especially if the password is known
- only to someone other than you. It is also useful to a parent aiming
- to limit kids' use of the computer.</FONT>
